Robot Technician

The Role
At Config, we're on an ambitious mission: to accelerate the deployment of automated robots that are truly useful in the real world.
The quality of data we produce is only as good as the robots collecting it. Our systems run continuously across multiple sites, and keeping those robots healthy, calibrated, and operational is mission-critical work. We're looking for a Robot Technician who can assess, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair our fleet — with a focus on the bimanual robots such as Dexmate Vega, Franka Research 3, Open arm, RBY-1 etc. that form the backbone of our data collection operations.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You will be the person who keeps our robots running at peak fidelity — diagnosing hardware faults, performing preventive maintenance, replacing components, and coordinating with engineers to resolve issues that affect data quality or throughput. You will work closely with the Robotics Systems and Operations teams, and your work will directly impact the quality of the datasets that train our foundation models.
If you're someone who gets satisfaction from making systems work reliably, loves getting your hands on real hardware, and wants to be part of building the data infrastructure for next-generation robotic intelligence — we'd love to talk.
What You'll Do
Robot Assessment & Fault Diagnosis
- Conduct regular health checks and performance assessments across the Dexmate Vega, Franka Research 3, Openarm, RBY-1 etc.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software-layer faults using robot diagnostic interfaces, logs, and direct hardware inspection.
- Identify degradation patterns — joint wear, calibration drift, gripper failure, communication errors — before they impact data collection.
- Maintain a fault log and escalate recurring or unresolved issues to the Robotics Systems Engineering team.
Maintenance & Repair
- Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance on robot arms, end-effectors, cabling, and mounting systems.
- Replace worn or failed components — joints, motors, encoders, wrist assemblies, grippers — following manufacturer and in-house procedures.
- Recalibrate robots after repair or relocation, verifying workspace accuracy and motion fidelity.
- Manage spare parts inventory; proactively flag critical stock levels and lead time requirements.
- Maintain clear, up-to-date maintenance records for each robot unit.
Operations Support
- Support robot setup, relocation, and workspace configuration for new or evolving data collection scenarios.
- Assist with the integration of new robot platforms or peripheral hardware as the fleet grows.
- Coordinate with data collection operators to minimize downtime and communicate planned maintenance windows.
- Document robot-specific quirks, known failure modes, and resolution procedures to build institutional knowledge.
- Liaise with robot vendors for warranty claims, RMAs, and technical support escalations.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
- Loves working with physical hardware and takes pride in keeping systems running reliably.
- Moves with urgency and ownership when something is broken.
- Is systematic and thorough when diagnosing problems — not just patching symptoms.
- Communicates clearly with both engineers and non-technical operators.
Technically, we're looking for:
- 2+ years of hands-on experience maintaining, repairing, or operating robotic or electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with robot arm hardware — joint mechanisms, cabling, end-effectors, and electrical interfaces.
- Ability to read technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and maintenance manuals.
- Comfort working with basic robot software interfaces for diagnostics and recalibration.
- Strong attention to detail and methodical approach to fault-finding.
Bonus Points
We'd be especially excited if you have:
- Direct hands-on experience with Dexmate Vega, Franka Research 3, Openarm, RBY-1 etc. platforms.
- Experience with other collaborative robot platforms such as UR series, RB-Y1, Piper, or similar.
- Background in industrial automation, mechatronics, or electrical/mechanical engineering.
- Familiarity with ROS or ROS2 for basic diagnostics or system monitoring.
- Experience supporting robot deployments in a lab, factory, or data production environment.
- Ability to communicate in both Korean and English.
